The School of Academics and Educational Opportunities meets the needs of a diverse student population through College and Career Readiness (CCR) programming, Career and College Promise (CCP) programming, Personal Enrichment courses, and traditional general education college transfer courses in support of all degree programs.

  • The literacy education opportunities provided within CCR include Adult Basic Education (ABE), English as a Second Language (ESL), and Adult Secondary Education (ASE).  ASE allows students to earn the Adult High School Diploma or the High School Equivalency Diploma (such as GED or HiSET).
  • CCP programming offers qualified high-school-age students the opportunity to pursue college transfer pathways or technical careers, tuition free, while still enrolled in high school, thereby enabling these students to get a jumpstart on their workplace and college preparation.
  • Covering everything from creative arts to consumer education to defensive driving, personal enrichment and community service programming is available for individuals interested in learning a new hobby or skill or in enhancing a current one.
  • Through an articulation agreement with the University of North Carolina System, as well as with many private institutions, CVCC students’ general education courses are accepted for full credit upon transfer.  Studies in the humanities, science, arts, social sciences, English, and mathematics are part of this general education core and are given high priority by our creative, innovative faculty members.
  • The following programs are offered in the School of Academics and Educational Opportunities:
